Why poster sessions matter

Poster sessions have a reputation as the consolation prize of conference formats. That reading misses what the format is unusually good at.

A poster visit lasts anywhere from twenty seconds to twenty minutes, so you build a one-line version, a two-minute version, and the full walkthrough.

A poster has no room for the paragraph that rescues a confusing figure, so the layout has to carry the logic. That is editorial work, not decoration.

Committee meetings, peer review, and interviews all run on answering questions in real time. A poster session is a low-stakes place to learn it.

You cannot fit the project on the board, so you decide the one claim the poster defends. Framing early, on a deadline, is unusually good practice.
